Angklung has become one of Sundanese traditional musical instrument worldwide. Now, there are robots that can play the Angklung.
Mursito Eko Budi, Lecturer of Engineering Physics Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) created angklung robot which can broadcast music from a song automatically. Eko call it by name or Angklung Klungbot Robot.
According to Eko, Klungbot is a robot that can automatically play angklung ensamble. This robot consists of one master computer that coordinates multiple robots musicians. Each robot musician can hold up to twelve angklung at once.
"I call a device consisting of eight or twelve angklung this as a robot musicians, and one robot musicians could play the desired song in accordance with instructions from the computer," said Eko, when found in Indonesian Exhibition Innovation Forum at ITB East Hall, Wednesday (15/12/2010).
The idea of making this Klungbot begins with trial and error. Eco house which close to Saung Aklung Udjo add inspiration to make this traditional musical instruments can be enjoyed without having to play their own devices this instrument.
Eko also began to realize the idea was in the month of fasting for some time. It did not take a long time, he creates Klungbot. One robot musicians originally consisted only of eight angklung representing eight tones. In one device there are also eight motors and three processor Mindstrom LEGO NXT and run the program LeJos (open source IDE for Java programming NXT).
"The circuit is for the discovery of the first. If now, just one processor can move the eight to twelve angklung at once," said the lecturer who also coaches junior high school extracurricular robot in this 14th.
To enjoy this Klungbot music, Eko said, you only need to choose a song on a maestro or computer devices that have stored data that contains the songs note musical notes. After that, simply give the command to start playing this Klungbot. Just as a musical conductor, maestro then gestured to the entire robot musicians to sound. And since this play Angklung bamboo Klungbot original, then the resulting sound is a natural acoustic sound and not a synthetic voice.
When exposed mechanically, the system is now working Klungbot maestro gave the order to play a song, then the motor will rotate and vibrate a tone or angklung, and so on according to the tone that was ruled by the maestro. Until you hear the strains of songs from this Klungbot.
"Every angklung will vibrate on command. So depending on orders, we can ask him to play any song, from existing data stored in the computer device to be the maestro," he said.
Eko also said, for a music arranger, Klungbot provide on computer maestro editor to write a musical composition can be directly Angklung and try it. In addition, Klungbot also flexible so it can be configured to play the melody angklung composition, akompani, or angklung bass party.
"Klungbot also capable of playing a set of angklung diatonic or pentatonic scales as well as international or traditional scales," he said.
The results of this work could make the device Eko music to welcome guests or even as music in public places. "Klungbot musical instrument can greet guests when entering into the Gedung Sate," said Eko.
Eko does offer the results of this work to anyone who wants to have it. For the price, Eko said he did not peg too expensive. In one device Klungbot specification consists of one robot musicians angklung 8-12, the number of robot musicians permaestro 8 with a speed of 50-120 beats per minute and the tap length of the song can be reached 60,000 tones. "Configuration and frame can be adjusted, depend on the desire," he said
